Jobs for 18 year olds are important because they can lead to a career. With graduation imminent, the job you take now will impact your resume. Weekend, part time night jobs, jobs for college students and summer jobs can lead to more opportunities in the future. Try to take a job with a promising company or with one that will give you the background you need. The whole process begins with some self assessment.

What Interests You?

Instead of jumping on the first job offer that comes your way, take some time to investigate your personal interests and strengths while looking for jobs for 18 year old high school students. There are many things to consider. If you are brave, now is the time to step out of your comfort zone. If you need to work on communication skills, choose something like a sales position. If you need to work on leadership, try a job that trains for management.

Small CPA firms, law firms and other professionals often offer this opportunity. If you can get your foot in the door as an intern, there might be a job waiting for you after college. Many young people have luck by visiting an employment agency. There are different types job centers. Some specialize as temp agencies. As a temp, you can try out different careers and you can find work for the summer, or after college classes.


If you just need income and not a career right now, companies such as TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday, Outback Steakhouse, Chili's, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Dominos Pizza, typically hire 18 year olds and older. This is good, because you have less competition from younger teens.

Prepare to Interview

Make a great first impression! If you are going job hunting, look professional. This is the time to get a haircut, buy a pair of slacks and a nice shirt. Make sure your nails are clean and well-manicured. Practice shaking hands with your parents. Look them in the eye and say "Thank-You." A bad first impression can last a lifetime. Do not let that happen to you. Do a mock interview too. Talk with confidence about why you want this job, and mean it. You must be able to do these basic skills. Have a good pair of shoes on too.
