Jobs for 14 Year Olds
Kids who are 14 can work at grocery stores, local businesses, and can do chores for neighbors. Although there are some employers who will provide jobs for 14 year olds, these are very limited. A few suggestions are listed below to get you started.

Working for Employers

Teens older than 15 can work unlimited hours but if you are 14 or 15 years old, the Department of Labor has set forth rules about the hours that you can work.
1. You cannot work during school hours.
2. You cannot work before 7 a.m.
3. You cannot work after 7 p.m. unless you are working anytime between June 1 and Labor Day, then you can work until 9 p.m.
4. You cannot work more than 3 hours on a school day.
5. You cannot work more than 18 hours in a school week.
6. You cannot work more than 8 hours on a day off from school.
7. You cannot work more than 40 hours in a week off from school.

Finding a job outside of the home is not easy when you are 14 or 15. Babyitting and chores are the easiest jobs to find at your age. If you do find a job outside of the home, the employer will have to enforce the rules as stated above. With these rules considered, here a a few actual companies that will hire young teens.

The Sitter Café. - We at Teen Career Center are not affiliated with this site. However, a quick review seems to indicate that this might be a good place to find jobs for 14 year olds because there are procedures in place to protect the babysitters. The babysitter can hide certain information such as telephone number, email address and screen name. Communication from the employer will go into a private mailbox. Furthermore, if you are 13, 14 or 15 years old, your profile will only be shown to employers who live within 5 miles of you. Your address will remain private. The employer's identities are also verified to make sure they are who they say they are. If you are considering this kind of job agency, make sure your parents are involved and that they speak to any potential employer.

Other places that hire kids at fourteen are Holiday World, Hospitals for volunteer work, and Hershey Park. Grocery stores also employ teens.

Safeway - has locations in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Washington. The starting age to work there is 14. Duties would include bagging, carrying groceries, collecting carts, and cleaning.

Publix – This grocery store has a chart at their website that shows what the age requirements are for each job title. 14 year olds can be baggers who bag groceries, retrieve carts, help customers and clean up. Teens can also be cashiers in the stores. In this job, they would greet customers, scan groceries and handle cash. Working at Home
At 14, your options are limited, but an ambitious teenager can find opportunities at home or in the neighborhood. Get to know your neighbors. When you see them outside, offer a hand. Soon they will think of you for jobs such as clearing brush, planting, painting the house, mowing the lawn, moving furniture, shampooing carpets, lifting, housekeeping, installing and removing air conditioners, clearing snow, watching the younger children, organizing and cleaning, and even running errands. Babysitting is an ideal job for kids your age.
