How to Apply to Babysitting Jobs for 14 Year Olds

You are 14 years old and you want to work. This is an ideal age to find employment as a babysitter. You may have experience sitting for your own family. and you are now old enough to be responsible. Parents who need help with their children love that you are young, live nearby and you are willing to work.


What you will be paid per hour varies. If you go through an agency, they can suggest a rate. If you work privately, you can suggest a rate and see what the parents say. You can ask for more money if you are watching more than one child. You can also ask for more if your duties involve cleaning and cooking.


Before you apply, see if your local Red Cross or community center is giving babysitting lessons and a CPR course. Obtaining some education will help you land a good job. If you cannot attend a Red Cross class, you can learn by reading or viewing videos online. Search for “babysitting tips”. You will find advice such as how to be safe, how to play with kids, how to discipline and manage children, and how to communicate with parents.

Job Search

Fourteen Year Olds can also parlay babysitting contacts into finding odd jobs for friends, parents and neighbors. Just get the word out that you are available. Once you get one job, ask your employer to refer you to their friends. Word of mouth will get you more work.

Try announcing that you want work on your Facebook page. If you know anyone who just had a baby, they might need help in their household. See if there are any elderly on your street who might need a hand. People who work might need help with their animals. If you think outside the box, you will find job opportunities and babysitting jobs for 14 year olds.
