Quick Summary of How to Find a Job:

You are probably here because you want a job and do not know where to start. First read about youth employment laws to make sure you can work. Then, depending on how old you are, see where you can work.  If you need a worker's permit, get one from your school. Next, search for jobs via career categories on this website, through your school, by searching your local newspaper, and by going in person to local stores and restaurants. Prepare a small resume to present along with your application to part time jobs. Bring a great attitude and dress well at interviews. Jobs for all Ages

13 and 14 Years Old

Outside of the home, these teens can cashier, babysit, sell items online, stock shelves, bag and carry orders, use only specific cooking devices, clean kitchen surfaces, work as computer programmers, teach, tutor, play an instrument, run errands by foot, bicycle or bus, do yard work without machinery, fill gas tanks, and wash dishes. Also:  At 13, you can deliver newspapers, babysit, act, perform, or work for your parents as long as the job is not hazardous.

15 Years Old

At fifteen you are still too young to work for a business. You will still be babysitting or doing the jobs that are listed for 14 year olds, but use this time to prepare your references and experience for when you turn 16. Fourteen and fifteen year old kids cannot unload or load trucks, they cannot use power driven machines, they cannot use lawn mowers, they cannot use balers and compactors, nor can they operate motor vehicles. They cannot perform any job that is hazardous.
Babysitting Jobs:  Babysitter job openings are some of the most popular part time and summer work options for teens. This is because these opportunities are easy to find and require little experience. A teen can start working for a family friend or relative and then branch out to neighbors and even to couples who place ads.

16 Years Old

At sixteen, you are finally able to apply to many jobs. There are fast food restaurants, clothing retail stores, bowling alleys, hair salons, game stores, camps, amusement parks and pharmacies that will accept your application. You can work in any job and any hours as long as the work is not hazardous as specified by the Secretary of Labor.

17, 18 and 19 Years Old
